July Vacation in Europe: Last week I returned from 3 weeks in Ibiza, Rome, Umbria and London. We caught up with so many friends and family while traveling. The best part of the trip? The uninterrupted family & friend time, celebrating a milestone birthday, a beautiful wedding, and dipping in the Mediterranean Sea between courses. If you are considering a vacation to Ibiza —just do it— I love this beach, or hit the coast of Rome at La Posta Vecchia Hotel's beach (below) in Ladispoli.- K
My stay in Italy's Green Heart: The land just north of Rome is Umbria, a rustic and beautiful land, with many old hilltop towns surrounded by farmland...and thousands upon thousands of sunflowers. I stayed at Aethos Saragano and would really love to check out their other properties, especially the Sardinia location. - K
Cacio e Pepe: Every time I saw Cacio e Pepe on the menu in Rome, I ordered it, which means I ate it once a day (or more) during my 5 days in Rome. It's Spaghetti, Pecorino, and pepper, and is a traditional Roman dish. We love Pasta Grannies, and they have a simple recipe to follow. Don’t forget to follow it up with a classic Aperol Spritz.- K
Are you Sirius? Fun fact, I studied astronomy in college and love the stars. The phrase "dog days of summer" is named after the brightest star in the sky rising this time of the year, Sirius, the Dog Constellation. Find the constellation just before dawn-- it will be the brightest star on the horizon. Point your iPhone to the sky with one of these apps and easily identify constellations. - M
Northern Light Show: Speaking of astronomy, did you catch the Perseids Meteor shower earlier this week? In many places, the annual meteor shower coincided with the Northern Lights. Watch an amazing time-lapse video capturing both! We missed it but seeing the northern lights is high up on our bucket list. We saw the Perseids meteor shower in Mallorca a few years ago in August which was such an unexpected treat.
Basil Microgreens: I've been growing so much micro basil and it is loving the heat! Micro basil is the quintessential summer herb with an anise-y bright flavor. Use it on everything from pizza to fresh tomatoes to cantaloupe sorbet. More info on micro basil here. - M
